I facilitate creative processes and workshops for writing, theatre and digital.

I am a skilled facilitator of creative group processes for children, young adults and adults in the areas of writing, producing, directing, performing and digital content creation.

I run workshops and give talks in schools, out-of-school settings, youth clubs, pupil referral centres, adult learning and community settings.

I work quickly to put participants at ease, inspire them and get people creating all within one session. I can work to one-off requirements and also specialise in designing more long-term regular sessions.

I also work one-to-one with writers to support them in the development of their writing, as well as supporting writers who are looking to develop their professional approach and industry knowledge.

I have facilitated outreach work on my own productions and also facilitated a variety of creative processes for the following organisations:

New Writing North
Creative Futures
Royal Exchange
Freedom Studios
Ambassador Theatre Group
Dark Horse Theatre
Creative People & Places
Lawrence Batley Theatre
Right Up Our Street

“Emma Hill is a valued member of the Royal Exchange’s Pool of Freelancers. She leads regular tours and workshops with school and college groups, and I cannot recommend her enough! She is calm, professional and well-prepared, and never fails to inspire the young people she is working with.”
Natalie Diddams, Schools’ Programme Leader, Royal Exchange Theatre

“Emma Hill delivered creative writing drop-in sessions for us at our Fun Palace in Doncaster and was excellent at engaging with a wide range of people. Many of my team commented that her warm personality drew people in to write, and Emma made a real impression on those who engaged in the creative writing. Her presence added a real sense of professionalism and authenticity to our day.”
Katherine Warman, Arts Supporter, Right Up our Street, Doncaster Arts

“Emma’s sessions were always practical, informative, fun and full of ideas beyond the usual run of the mill guidance which you can find anywhere. She inspired me to get writing and provided constructive and helpful feedback on my efforts, which showed real insight.  Some of the resultant short plays have been accepted for performance or rehearsed reading by, for instance, Cast in Doncaster and the Theatre Royal, York.”
John Emms, Write Now course participant, Lawrence Batley Theatre

“Emma has a powerful, disarming and highly inspirational flair for teaching and mentoring anyone serious about wanting to write.  Emma’s style encourages frank self-questioning and a continuous quest for improvement.  She leads by example with a sustained energy level throughout a session and consequently achieves excellent interaction with and between her pupils.”
Tom Lonsdale, Write Now course participant, Lawrence Batley Theatre

“Emma’s sessions were unpredictable, packed and inspiring, covering not only all aspects of writing for the stage, but also how to go about marketing and publishing. She was always honest, constructive and useful. We were treated as keen playwrights looking to be performed, rather than local amateurs.”
Steve Goldman, Write Now course participant, Lawrence Batley Theatre

“Emma treats us like adults and that makes me want to work hard and do the best I can.”
